Since the beginning, in 2011, OBX Pride has supported the young people in our community by having a “Kid’s Corner” at the main pride festival, enforcing a family-friendly atmosphere for all daytime activities, sponsoring events such as a karaoke/dance for the high school students during Pridefest, and also offering a scholarship to local high school students who participate in the Gay/Straight Alliance club at their school. This year, we are proud to announce our partnership with another local nonprofit, Dare2Care. Dare2Care raises money to fund music lessons and equipment for local special needs band, the OBX Shredders, who will the opening act for our Saturday music festival this year! Dare2Care also hosts their own music festival each year to raise money for the OBX Shredders, called OBX Shred Fest. Please check our their website here: http://dare2careobx.com/. Please scroll to the bottom of this page to see the full video of our board’s president, Mel Space, presenting our $1500 donation to Lisa Brickhouse, local radio host and organizer of OBX Shred Fest and Dare2Care. Please consider becoming a sponsor or donating to OBX Pride- a portion goes towards giving back to our community and supporting local nonprofits!
We also accept donations in honor of your loved-one. Folks have sent us donations in lieu of flowers and we are very thankful and touched by these memorials. We received a $250 donation in honor of Russell Chaney, in remembrance of his involvement in the LGBTQ community.
