After decades of sharing music and love and raising a family of musicians, Dan and Laura Martier have finally come together musically to create a unique hybrid of sounds and songs all on their own. As the duo Birddog, the Martier's blend years of collaborative experience to create music infused with passion and personal stories. On Open Air, the couples debut recording, you will hear sounds as versatile as the Martier's themselves ranging from Latin, rock, and soul, to country, Cajun and beyond. What ties this labor of love together from song to song is Laura's consistently gorgeous voice, Dan's versatile drumming and their beautiful harmonies. Between travel and tours, the Martier's can be found on the beach in Southern Shores, North Carolina, their home-base.

How it all began:
I am a police officer and paramedic in Erfurt, Germany.
I was directly involved in a disturbing school shooting that that occurred on 26 April 2002 here in
Erfurt. It was labeled The Erfurt Massacre by news media around the world. The gunman, a 19-year-old expelled student, shot and killed 16 people: 13 staff members, two students, and one police officer.
This did something to my soul/spirit, it became locked deep inside and I couldn’t pull it back out. PTSDI bought a guitar and I started playing which seemed to keep my mind still and the flashbacks from coming as often.
Later, I was looking for a band to play with and in doing this I meet a keyboard player who told me
“I like your style, you look and play like Melissa Etheridge”My response was “Who?”
I had never heard of her. That day he gave me my first CD of Melissa Etheridge.I went home to listen and Holy Moly I was like WOW! She became my daily therapist, I began to sing and play guitar till my fingers bled. I could finally feel myself being slowly pulled back to life and out of the dark place I had lost myself.
That’s why I do what I’m doing. It’s a Tribute to Melissa Etheridge and a way for me to say THANK YOU!
Thank you for making me feel again, thank you for making me believe again, thank you for bringing me back to life
….and it is important for me to say — I am not a double, I am not Melissa, I am Dany (MAIDA) .
I put my own feelings into her songs and into my performances. If I can only help one person by performing and sharing her music, the way it helped me, it will all be worth it.
For me…. MUSIC IS LIFE !!
